Things to Know About Your Red Eye Tree Frog
Lifespan & Size
On average, an adult red eye tree frog ranges from 2" -3" in length! Females tend to be the larger of the species. The lifespan of a red eye tree frog averages on 5 years!
Diet
Red eye tree frogs are insectivores! They prefer to eat crickets, moths, flies and even grasshoppers! If you are planning to have two in one enclosure make sure the frogs are roughly the same size! Sometimes the red eye tree frogs will eat other smaller frogs!
Behavior
Red eye tree frogs are nocturnal animals, so they hunt and wonder the world at night! Which means they sleep through most of the day. If they are woken during the day they open their bright red eyes as a defense mechanism to help predators go away! That is how they got their name Red Eye Tree Frogs!
Habitat
Red eye tree frogs are found in warm tropical rainforest environments! They love high humidity and warm day and night temperatures! We recommend putting substrate in the enclosure that will hold moisture to keep the humidity high! We recommend: Eco Earth and mixed with Reptibark. Adding some moss on-top like Sphagnum Moss is wonderful and will help hold more humidity as well! We highly recommend keeping their humidity range around 60%-70%, and their temperatures between 75°F-85°F (24°-29°C). Red eye tree frogs need access to fresh clean water every day, so either a water feature or a large water bowl is a must! Red eye tree frogs also need UVB (ultra violet bulb), which helps them absorb vitamins of D3!
