Pacman Frogs

Frogs are one of the most popular pets in the reptile community!  We want to share our knowledge on the best way to keep a Pacman frog living their best life possible as a pet!  In this article we will be going over all the ups, downs, ins and outs of their lifestyle, size, diet, enclosures, substrate, decor, and their habitat temps.  Keep reading to learn all about Pacman Frogs!

Lifespan & Size

Pacman frogs are some the easiest amphibians to take care of in the reptile community!  When it comes to their lives, we take it just a seriously as any other animal!  We want to make sure that Pacman frogs are living long, happy, healthy lives!  With the proper care and habitat in your home, Pacman frogs can live up to 10 years old!  Growing up to 4-6" long, and roughly as wide as a small dinner plate sometimes!

Diet

When it comes to feeding your Pacman frog, it is so important to give them variety!  Pacman frogs are insectivores (main diet is insects). Do they need supplements of vitamin D3?  If you do not have the proper lighting for them, than the answer is YES!  You want to help with their bone growth and over all health.  You can buy vitamin D3 here.  What size insect should you be feeding?  Go based off the size of their mouth.  If the insect is too big for their mouths, they will not eat them for it is going to be difficult.  Make sure the insect is the correct size!

Below is a list of all the insects we recommend feeding your Pacman frog.

  • Crickets
  • Dubia Roaches
  • Earthworms
  • Hornworms
  • Silkworms
  • Superworms
  • Mealworms

Majority of these can be bought at our store.

Enclosures

What size enclosure should my Pacman frog have?  We always recommend AT LEAST 20 gallons.  For easier maintenance a front opening enclosure will be easier, but if you prefer the a top opening enclosure that will be just as good!

What about substrate?  Pacman frogs are from a grassland type environment, so we recommend having a substrate that is mixed.  Here is the ratio of each type of substrate to make the perfect mix for your Pacman frog.

The reason you want to add sand is because it helps hold structure in the enclosure for your Pacman frog.  Pacman frogs are known to spend almost half of their life buried in their dirt.  When it comes to how deep should the substrate be, make sure it is deep enough for your Pacman frog to dig themselves into.  While your Pacman frog grows, the deeper your dirt will need to get as well!

What about decor?   You want your Pacman frogs to feel safe, so the most important thing is places to hide!  You can find all of our decor here!

Habitat Temps

Pacman frogs are ectotherm (animals that rely on their environment for their body heat).  It is very important that you have the heat correct in your enclosure, so the Pacman frogs metabolic system work correctly.

Humidity  60-80%
Basking Spot 82-85°F
General Air Temp 75-80°F
Night time Temp 65-70°F
