Iguana Information
Behavior
Iguanas can make a great pet under the right conditions. As juveniles, they tend to be super energetic, and through handling, they can become very calm. However, every iguana is different, and you should base your level of handling on the temperament of your iguana's personality. Our resident iguana Keith favors chin scratches loves being misted, and if you choose to hold him, will definitely try to perch on your shoulder.
We do not recommend housing Iguanas together as they prefer to be alone and are highly territorial. They love to bask in the sun/heat, and a tamed iguana could spend hours basking in a sunny spot in your home! Each iguana is so different, and they all have unique quirks that, over time, you'll be able to recognize and adapt to!
Lifespan & Size
Pet Iguana's on average live 12-15 years, but a healthy and well cared for iguana can sometimes live even longer. Adult iguanas can range 6-7 feet in length and weigh around 17-20lbs!
Diet
Iguanas are herbivores and should eat a strictly vegetarian diet without protein as protein can cause damage to organs such as the Kidney.
